History

Faverolles were developed around Seine-et-Oise in France in the nineteenth century. Local farmyard chickens were use for meat, so to give them a bit more bulk, the local poultry was crossed with mainly Brahmas and Dorkings and the Faverolles emerged. Faverolles is a village, midway between the small towns of Houdan, Dreux and Noyent-le-Roi.

Characteristics

The original Favorelles was salmon coloured – the only type recognised in Holland.
Can get broody and are good mothers. Robust; cold hardy; because of fancy feathering, not suited for foul weather. Faverolles bear confinement well; alert; calm; very docile; genteel; prone to bullying by others
