History

First bred by "Bovans Poultry Breeders" in the Netherlands in the 1950's (now Hendrix Poultry Breeders). Nera is Dutch for black! They are a hybrid of a Rhode Island Red Cockerel crossed with a Barred Plymouth Rock Hen.

Characteristics

A confident, friendly and easily tamable bird. Hardy and disease resistant. Chicks are colour sexable by headspot
